(More customer reviews)I own many different reels (spincasting and baitcasting) that are up to 12 times more expensive than this.Most are filled with line that cost more than this reel.But out of them all, this is by far my favorite.The line flows very freely when casting.I can place my bait exactly where I want it every time.It casts much longer than any of my other reels with the same lure weight.My two young children prefer it too because they can cast it accurately even with their limited skills.The only problem I ever had was that the line grab didn't always catch when reeling in if there was no tension.That was resolved by replacing the line with slightly better quality mono.Also, I have two other Shakespeare reels my kids got in their first fishing sets.They have exactly the same line pick-ups.I noticed when cleaning my reel that there's provision for two pick-ups even though only one is supplied.I removed the pick-up from the old reel and added it to this one so it now has two.That made a huge difference.Now the pick-up always grabs even with no line tension.I orginally bought it this reel as a combo with a Shakespeare rod.
I have just bought another one of these reels to replace one of my other reels that I hate (that cost $120).I have paired it with a Field & Stream 6'-6" 2 piece (Medium) IM6 rod.
