The Lamson litespeed is a pretty okay reel overall. It looks great, it's very light, however it didn't live up to my expectations in a few departments. First of all let me say that this supposed "Hard Alox" coating is a little bit of a misnomer. It scratches off just as easily as any other coating on any other reel I've ever had and that has disappointed me greatly. I wanted a reel that would stay looking new for awhile, and this one hasn't. Second of all the reel makes an annoying squeal when I'm stripping...sounds like a fork on a plate. Can't comment much on the drag as I really haven't had a fish that can truly test it yet, but seems okay when I'm just pulling on it.

I have a $60 Okuma reel that I can't tell the much difference between the litespeed. And with the difference in price that's pretty sad. If I had the choice again, I probably wouldn't have gone for the litespeed.

UPDATE: Okay I have to give another star because the folks at Lamson are pretty helpful and understanding. They said the coating can vary from batch to batch so I'll give it another shot. Great customer service makes a great company.

Product Description:
The Lamson Litespeed Hard Alox is a true large arbor reel with the same fully-sealed drag system that is used in the Waterworks ULA. Like the ULA, the Litespeed Alox is machined in the U.S. from barstock aluminum. By utilizing a more traditional structural design and foregoing the use of titanium we are able to offer a very fine, high performance large arbor reel at a value you would expect from Lamson. Lighter without sacrificing strength, the new Lightspeed Hard Alox will come in a close second to a corresponding Force reel in terms of retrieve rate and weight, and each shares our patented maintenance-free super smooth conical drag. Reel Sizes & Line Weights: 1: 1-3, 1.5: 3-5, 2: 4-6, 3: 6-8, 3X: 8, 3.5: 8-9, 3.5X: 9, 4: 10-11.
