(More customer reviews)I recently got back into fishing again after years away from the sport.I am no more than a well read amateur weekend warrior fisherman that for 35+ years always used spinning rod/reel combos that were affordable (read: cheap) pre-packaged sets from the local sporting goods section of the well known discount stores.After losing some nice fish due to weak equipment a couple months back, I decided to upgrade my tackle into the 21st century.I will save you all the technical details from the research I did to just let you know that it became clear to me that if I wanted to improve my fishing entertainment, I should change over to a bait casting rod/reel combo that included this freshwater and saltwater worthy reel.
Despite a lot of information out there indicating that the learning curve to use any bait casting reel is difficult in the beginning, all the literature I gathered about the Abu Garcia Revo STX (High Speed-Left handed model for me because I always reeled left handed with spin reels) assured me that this reel would cut the learning curve down to nearly nothing.My assumption has been proven 100% correct.
Practicing some tips I gathered from a few Youtube videos on how to adjust and cast with a baitcasting reel for about 15 minutes, I caught the two biggest inshore spotted bass in my life (amongst other fish) the first day out with this reel (combined with a Shimano Volteaus 6'6" Medium action, fast tip bait casting rod SHIMANO VOLTAEUS LIFETIME WARRANTY EXTRA DURABLE RODS).
After using my new set-up, I have NOT been skunked out on the water in about 10 outings.Setting the hook and reeling in fish (up to a guesstimated 8 pounds so far) is a piece of cake now (using good fishing line helps a lot too).The power and ease of this reel will not disappoint.
I also posted this review to pass along the 2nd most important thing I learned in my research, DO NOT let the price of this reel discourage you from starting with this reel as your first bait caster (or as an addition to your inventory).I started with this mid level priced model because I read too many stories about people that learned the hard way to just start with this reel that compares favorably to much higher priced/end models because eventually cheaper "starter" models only led them to this model.Start where you will end up by getting this model as your first choice and save $$ from the very beginning.

I bought this reel (not the rod) from Amazon.com at an amazing sale price during a very limited time sale (<$140 before $20 rebate).Keep an eye out for such future sales which will only add to my premise that you can not go wrong with this reel.
Remember to practice CPR (catch, photo, release).

(More customer reviews)This a very smooth reel, with very good quality materialas...., the thing you have to consider is that the reel is very small, and you have to adpat to it if you are changing reels with diferent lures....
I have several curados and calais, and it is considerably more smaller and lighter. So it feels wierd at first when changing reels.If you use it for a while it has a very smooth cast.
(Of cousrse the other solution is to change all the reels, which in time I'll do)
So just be pacient, it's a very nice reel.

(More customer reviews)Frankly, haven't owned an Abu Garcia reel since the days of the old 5500-5600 Ambassadeurs but, based on price and reviews on other websites, thought I would give the Revo S a try.I own several right-hand Shimano and Quantum reels, all good, but arthritis in my left wrist has made hook-setting very painful.Rather than using spinning reels, I decided to try a left-hand bait cast reel and chose the Revo.A little awkward at first, I still cast with my right hand and had to remember not to shift to my left hand to retrieve.After setting braking system (just the one knob on the Revo S model), I let fly with my first cast.The line literally flew off the reel and with absolutely no bird nest!Amazingly lightweight and smooth.I'm a "simple is better" kind of guy and this reel is everything I want and need.

(More customer reviews)Received the Winch one fishing trip ago.Used on fresh water lake for bass.
First impression was that though like the STX and the top of the line Premier, all of which have the same 11 bearings, the Winch was more free running.
They all share the same centrifigal braking system to avoid back lashes, but the STX and Premier also have magnetic brakes for use when throwing into a cross or head wind.Even with the magnetic set to Zero, it may be that there is still an influence on the freedom of the spool.
The Winch also has the longer handle, like the Skeet Reese model, and some of the salt water reels.....it hauls line beautifully with no fatigue.
Super product at a very reasonable price.Highly recommended.
