(More customer reviews)I fish a lot of top water and this thing performed like a DREAM! Never once gave me a problem and I throw a lot of 3/8oz plugs. Drag stays set, reel is smooth as silk. You can pay a LOT more for a reel but you can't touch this quality/performance/value. Gonna get me a spare so I got 2 ready to go. Some of the newer design reels look real pretty, but try taking those rascals apart for oiling/greasing! This ones a snap, "old school" no doubt but "when it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

(More customer reviews)Heavy, Cobby and will pitch a mile.This reel is a little rough around the edges and difficult to get the side plate off, but very tough and that's what flipping and pitching in bushes is all about.I have never had a reel that would pitch this far, lots of control because your thumb is on the smooth metal spool and not on the bumpy line.Only complaint is that there isn't a flipping switch.

(More customer reviews)My Abu-Garcia 6500-C3 has been going strong for over 15 years now without any problems. It's just as strong and smooth as the day I bought it.
The reel is built with quality, durability, and ruggedness in mind. Handling it lets you know that you're holding a reel that won't let you down. I've winched in some huge channel cats on this reel without any problems. It handles everything from light monofilament to heavy braids with equal ease. Casting is smooth and trouble free so long as you do your part, and retrieval is just as smooth.
The only area of improvement that the reel could use is to upgrade the drag discs. Though the drag is fairly smooth, it could use some extra smoothing out and more hold when cranked all the way down. This is not a big deal as upgraded drag discs are readily available, and it's best to change out the drag washers every year or two anyways.
