(More customer reviews)Having had such strong performance with the Thunnus 6000, I decided to add the Thunnus 12000 to my collection.I am very pleased.

The 12000 holds about 550 yards (maybe more) of 30 pound test fireline.This capacity is needed when I catch a monster shark or game fish - they love to run!

I use my reel in the surf at Seabrook Island, South Carolina (A private island that offers great surf fishing -- you can rent an ocean front villa for a great price!) It gets splashed with the salt water, and keeps on going!I always use the baitrunner feature.

I did own a Van Staal for a few months, I traded up for the Thunnus, and saved a bunch of money in the process.I also own a Thunnus 6000, and I notice that the 12000 gives me longer cast.It also seems to be a bit more smoother on the retrieve.

Towards the end of the season, my 6000 was completely summerged in the sandy surf water and the gears started to grind.For the low price of $24, Shimano serviced it.It is like brand new!With a strong company that is ready to service this excellent reel, I see this being an easy 5 star rating.

Bottom line - a great reel that is backed by a great company.The service is wonderful and reasonably priced.The drag and strength of this reel will enable you to bring in the monsters of the sea!

(More customer reviews)My son is a fishing fanatic. this was a birthday gift for him. since i have not heard any complaints from him about this reel I have to asume it works as advertised.He would complain very loudly if there was any kind of problem or bad design(he has many times before).It shipped quickly and was delivery when promised(it has also caught a boatload of bass and snakeheads)

(More customer reviews)I bought this reel last fall for $100 (the 2500 model) and I have to say, it was money well-spent. The reel is really smooth on retrieves and feels like it should cost more than it does. I paired it up with a Shimano Crucial 6'8" Drop shot rod and use it for drop shotting, and some times for senkos and jigs too. I gotta say, they work great together. The only con I have is that this reel doesn't come with an extra spool. Which I would find helpful when switching from fishing drop shots to senkos/jigs and vice versa.

(More customer reviews)The reel and the customer service were major disappointments. The reel functioned well for about 20 uses, then problems with the antireverse causing extreme drag on reel. When returned to Okuma after shipping at my expense, they sent me a reconditioned item instead of a new one. This is not my first problem with Okuma, but will be my last.
